Choosing a Size

Having both options:  To look over the windshield when it is all the way down and look through the windshield when it is all the way up.

Looking Over the Windshield when the Windshield is all the way Down

The ideal height is where the top edge of the windshield is level with the tip of your nose in the down position. This gives you about 2” to see over the top of the windshield when you are looking straight ahead. With this height, the wind will clear the top of your head for a comfortable and quiet ride even all the way down.

Looking Through the Windshield when the Windshield is all the way Up

The ideal height is where the top edge of the windshield is about 1″ above your line of sight when in the highest position.  This gives the most comfort and protection for both the rider and the passenger.

Measuring Tips

–  If you have a tall windshield on your bike, you can place a piece of Blue Painters Masking Tape on your windshield with the top edge of the tape at different heights and take a short ride to get settled into your normal riding position.

–  If you have a short windshield on your bike, you can tape different size pieces of cardboard on your windshield with Blue Painters Masking Tape and take a slow ride to get settled into your normal riding position.

Test Ride our Windshield

Your windshield will come with a protective plastic film applied to both sides of the windshield. Make sure to leave the plastic on the windshield, mount the windshield and take a short test ride, as long as you have good visibility.

If you are not completely satisfied with the height or performance of the windshield, you may return the windshield for a different size or for full credit (less any shipping charges) as long as the windshield is like new and the protective plastic film has not been removed.

Take your time . . . make sure it is right.  No worries if you order in the winter months and it takes until Spring to try it out.

Rider Reviews

You have definitely hit a home run.

I bought a 16” light gray tinted windshield for my ’16 Roadmaster from you just before this last Memorial Day. You have definitely hit a home run. First off, I received this windshield in a timely manner. I was like a kid in a candy store when it arrived. And I couldn’t wait to put it on the bike. After putting in on the bike, I was a little skeptical about buying a 16 inch windshield because when I sat on the bike, I had it lower all the way, I was just seeing over the top of it. I was more worried on how it would affect my wife when she rode with me. Our first long trip with it on the bike was about 700 miles. I still had to raise it up for her. But there was literally no distortion for me looking through it. And the buffeting for both of us is almost nonexistent. I also had a chance to ride in a rainstorm. Once again, no real problems, besides looking through rain drops, with this windshield. Once again, thank you for making an outstanding product. And I do recommend your windshield to all my Indian owner friends.

I’m very satisfied with the product and will not look anywhere else for windshields for this or any future bike.

First off, this is not my first Freedom Shield rodeo.  This will be my third new Freedom and 5th overall Freedom.  My first one was for my 2012 Screamin Eagle Street Glide, and it made a world of difference in wind management on that bike.  If but for the wind alone I would have been happy but nope, this thing is clear as a bell when it comes to optics and the view out. I’m very happy that John and all the fine folks at Freedom have adopted other brands because I recently took ownership of a 2018 Indian Chieftain Limited.  The factory “flip” windshield was OK but had some distortion and it was quite a bit more than the 12″, lightly tinted Freedom I purchased.  With that size, I can run the windshield all the way in the down position and have NO wind issues whatsoever.  I’m looking just over the top of it in that position.  Fully up and I’m really looking through but talk about a clear view along with great wind (and rain) protection.  Those polished edges finish out what is a great windshield. I actually did put another brand on my 2015 Screamin Eagle Road Glide Ultra and while it managed the wind, it didn’t hold a candle to the optics and fit/finish of my Freedom, so Freedom is what I put back on it.  I’m very satisfied with the product and will not look anywhere else for windshields for this or any future bike.  I’ve got two friends that have moved to Freedom, too, based on what they see sitting behind mine.  It’s a great product.  Thanks John.

I would definitely buy again.

I had the OEM recurve windshield on my bike, but I found if I raised the windshield to its highest position there was a lot of wind coming from the bottom of the windshield. I was undecided on the height of a shield from Freedom and mentioned it in an email. To my surprise John, the owner of Freedom Shields, called me. We had a nice conversation and John explained to me that the OEM is measured differently. We decided on the 14”. It measures one and three quarters of an inch taller than OEM. This allows me to raise my new windshield to the same position as before without the wind coming from underneath. The extra height has made it a more comfortable ride. I love the look of it on my bike and had many compliments. I haven’t had any issues looking through the shield if I have it raised up and there’s no distortion of my vision. John is a pleasure to deal with and customer satisfaction and communication is first class. I would definitely buy again.

The windshield has been outstanding.

I bought a windshield from you a couple of years ago.  Easy install on my Indian Roadmaster, took it for a ride and once I decided I wanted it, I took the plastic cover off and it hasn’t left my bike since.  I wanted to give it a good test before writing a review.  The windshield has been outstanding.  I’ve road through high winds and torrential rains since the install.  The worst one was in a trip across Missouri.  It felt like someone was throwing 5 gallon buckets of water at me.  As long as I kept the bike at 55mph or higher, the windshield remained clear.  The lip on the edge kept the rain from hitting me and my glasses.  There’s always drops that are going to get on you, I wasn’t completely dry behind the shield, in fact I was soaked, but I was able to see and safely move down the road.  I highly recommend your shields to other riders, and you guys keep up the good work.

Did I mention no distortion? None at all.

I purchased my 2016 Indian Chieftain in June and my dealer installed a Indian flared shield for me for free. Once I rode the bike for a bit, I noticed a bad distortion right where the shield flared. Took the bike back and had them install a large Indian touring shield. This one had bad distortion all around the outer edge, about 1 inch in. Frustrated, I spoke with the technician and he recommended I see what Freedom Shields had to offer. Checked this site and found a nice flared shield claiming no distortion. I called and ordered a 12 inch light grey and, I’ve gotta say, I wish Indian came with these shields. The flare is not quite as drastic as the Indian one (which is good) but it handles the wind wonderfully, especially raised all the way up on the Chieftain. Super easy to install and no distortion at all. I guessed at the height when I ordered it but am happy with the 12 inch shield height. And did I mention no distortion? None at all. And shipping was fast and well packed and protected. And the price was extremely attractive. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO EVERY INDIAN CHIEFTAIN OR ROADMASTER OWNER!!!

This is the best shield I have ever ridden behind.

Rec’d my new shield and installed it on my 2016 Road Master. The stock shield was ok, I would extend it up and then down an inch to get the wind management I wanted, in the rain it would not go up high enough for me. Your shield, I take it down and then up an inch, I am riding with it 3″ lower and getting the same wind management, plus it will go up high enough to ride in the rain with out crouching down under the shield. This is the best shield I have ever ridden behind. Thanks for a great product! I am headed out this weekend for a about a 700 mile ride I will put it through the paces then.

The windshield kept my face and glasses dry allowing us to have a safe ride without any issues.

John, Attached are a few pictures of the Freedom Shield mounted on my 2015 Indian Roadmaster. I rode it to work this morning, temp in central Missouri was 50 degrees, I hadn’t ridden 100 yards and noticed a huge difference. The windshield deflected the cool air perfectly, just as advertised. I would recommend that Indian offer this product on all of their motorcycles direct from the showroom. Installation of the medium tint 14″ windshield was very easy, fitment was perfect, and as you can see, it looks great on my bike. We are heading out west on a 2 week tour in Sept, this will be the true test, I anticipate it will perform perfectly. Very happy with the product and highly recommend it to all riders. Thanks John. Like I said in my email previously that we were taking a trip out west. We rode a total of 4250 miles in 17 days from Missouri to Utah. Riding with the medium tint 14″ windshield in the low position was as advertised, no Kansas bugs in the face, no wind buffeting from big rigs. We really enjoyed the ride, the only time I raised the windshield to max height was during a day-loge on I-70 through Glenwood Springs on Sept 8th. Even then the windshield kept my face and glasses dry allowing us to have a safe ride without any issues. I received several complements on the looks of the bike with the tinted windshield, it was unbelievable. Thanks again for the product!!!!
